My head used to hurt like it was going to blast. Headache is no joke.

Sometimes, it would last a week. The situation continued to worsen; at one point, I even believed I had a tumor in my brain.

At one point, doctors prescribed me painkillers and migraine medicines. I was feeling horrible, and even the slightest bit of distress would trigger my headache.

Studying and working were nearly impossible. I started avoiding social gatherings because just five minutes into a discussion, my anger would shoot up, all due to my strange headache.

After trying numerous approaches, I found a few that really worked. I researched deeply about it and discovered what was truly causing my headache.

Real Reason of Your Headache

Your blood sugar levels don’t stay normal; a hormone imbalance begins to happen. The hormones norepinephrine and epinephrine cause blood vessels in the brain to dilate.

So, it is crucial to focus on maintaining blood sugar levels in the safer zones. Normal sugar levels lead to a healthy brain. When sugar levels don’t fluctuate much, it leads to healthy hormone production.

Then, healthy hormones helps you repair your body. This is very simple, but keeping blood sugar levels normal is the hard part.

This is for type-1 diabetics. There can be other reasons too, and if the pain is unbearable, it’s good to consult a doctor.

Headache Due to Stress

Again, most of our headaches trigger when we take stress, so as type 1 diabetics, we must avoid stressful situations and take care of our mental well-being.

Taking CBT therapy helped me a lot.

Avoid a Monotonous Diet

There are many types of nutrients that our body requires in order to function properly. Sometimes people eat what is locally or culturally available to them. For example, you live with your family, and you eat what they cook for you.

Initially, what happens is you eat the same kind of food throughout the year and you start to lack a variety of nutrients.

Result: you feel dizzy, you feel weak, and you always feel tired. This happens when your body is begging you for micronutrients.

There are two types of nutrition. Micro (vitamins, minerals, etc.), Macro (Carbs, Fats, Proteins). We need all of this in balanced amounts. We get a good amount of macro in our daily foods, but we must diversify our diet.

  • Eat a few nuts everyday
  • Try different oils
  • Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables
  • Eat some fermented food once in a while
  • Fast if you feel full all the time
  • Eat green leafy veggies
  • Drink More Water

After all, type 1 diabetes does revolve around your diet. I learned it the hard way. If we can control our tongues, we can live healthier lives.

Physical Activity and Workout

Since blood circulation is often overlooked. A healthy blood circulation single-handedly prevents all minor body aches and headaches.

Recently, I started playing volleyball for at least half an hour every day. It burns calories, helps me sweat, and benefits me with healthy blood circulation.

Meanwhile, Stretching also helps in improving our overall health, and being flexible helps your body to relax quicker than those who are stiff.

Lastly, walking and dancing too help in healthy blood circulation.

Taking Multivitamin Supplements

Without a doubt, nothing can replace a balanced diet, but sometimes it is a good choice to take supplements. Our body is an intricate instrument, and it requires different types of nutrition.

Consult your doctor or nutritionist for a good supplement recommendation. Everything on the market is not of the best quality.

I recommend always going for a well-known brand that has stayed in the market for some decades.

Improve Your Mental Health

Sometimes, stress can be the cause of headaches. Working on your mental health and being joyful can help a lot. I am telling you this from personal experience: I don’t have any headaches on a happy day.

Again, we can’t stay happy all the time. Just like other emotions, happiness is also one and it is also temporary. But you can achieve an equilibrium.

  • Spend some time on self-care
  • Learn new hobbies
  • Meet new people
  • Make art
  • Spend time with a pet
  • Meditate

Besides, this is not medical advice, and if your mental health condition is very poor, it is recommended you go see a therapist.

Finally, the best advice this article will give you is: don’t just waste away your life sitting and sleeping. Get moving. Go out, do something with your hands, lift something, look at the open sky, and breathe a lungful of fresh air.

Oil Massage Your Head

In India people do this when their head hurt and nothing is more relaxing than a head massage. It’s called Champi, ancient Indian oil massage.

Massaging your head promotes blood circulation and relieves headaches.

Do this half an hour before showering, so you don’t feel oily all day.

Conclusion

Again, self-healing is a journey, and medicines are not the answer for everything. We have to understand our own bodies. We became our own healers the day we were diagnosed with a chronic illness.

  • Eat a balanced diet rich in veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds.
  • Physical activity is important
  • Taking multivitamin supplements
  • Work on your mental health; reduce stress

At the end, thanks for reading.
