Anxiety is normal in type-1 diabetics. It happens when blood sugar levels are not in a normal range.
Sometimes it is not the type-1 that is responsible for our anxiety. Sometimes it is our overall mental health. 90% of type-1 diabetics face mental health issues at some point.
There can be many other reasons for anxiety apart from type 1. Sometimes our environment can also cause us anxiety. If you come from a toxic household, you know how your family can ruin a good day in seconds.
I have been anxious since childhood. When I turned 22 years old, then I realized it’s not normal to feel this way. Until then, I thought this was how everyone felt.
This article will explore all possible ways of dealing with anxiety and lowering it so we can relax for once.
How Anxiety Harms Your Well Being
Anxiety has a negative effect on our bodies. According to the ancient Hindu medical system known as Ayurveda, all diseases originate in the gut when the digestive fire (overall healthy functions of the gut) declines.
The gut is also our second brain. All unprocessed negative emotions attack our digestion. When our body feels distress, it stops all the digestive processes.
These conditions are often associated with feeling anxious all the time.
- High blood pressure
- Poor digestion
- poor mental health
- Disturbs sleep
- Poor quality of life
- Less focus
Well, not all types of anxiety are bad. It is our body’s natural response to stressful triggers. It helped us survive in the wilderness. Sometimes this nervousness motivates you to work. It is only a problem when it is uncontrollable.
Yogic Breathing Practices For Anxiety
Doctors almost put me on medication for anxiety, but at the last moment I enrolled in this 7-day yoga program, and since then my mental health has never been the same. The program’s name is Inner Engineering by Sadhguru.
These 7 days were truly the most peaceful and joyful days of my life. The program offered many powerful practices, but one that is most impactful is Nadi Sudhhi Pranayam.
This is my personal experience, and it is very safe and effective. It takes only five minutes to learn, and doing it in the morning helps feel light and fresh the whole day.
Even in the daytime, whenever your anxiety feels uncontrollable, this breathing exercise will help you manage it.
99.9% of my anxiety is gone because of this practice alone. That’s why I mentioned it first. I hope it helps you too.
There is also a free app that I use, and it is a good starting point to learn mindfulness. It is called Medito App.
A Walk in Nature
Unfortunately, all of us don’t live near forests. My situation was similar, but I had moved to a village with flowers and trees all around my house. I used to walk bare feet over soil and sit in sunlight.
Then I moved back to New Delhi. Here I will have to spend a good amount of money to get out of the city, and it’s not even safe.
Who says you can’t connect with Mother Nature at home in a city? Buy a plant and let it sit by your window or in a corner where it gets some sunlight.
Get a Plant
Sit with it. Talk with it. Water it. Touch it. Touch the soil. Say good things to it. Tell the plant about your day.
I know this sounds crazy, but it is a very therapeutic experience and calms down the nervous system like no other thing.
Unique Journaling Technique
I journal a lot. It helps me think clearly, organize my stuff, and see where I am heading in life.
First, get a pen and paper.
Then write down the things that are troubling you. Cross the things that are not under your control.
Thus, you are left with the things you can control. Most of the time nothing will be left to worry about, but if you get something that is under control, then take the necessary steps and fix what is troubling you.
Journaling works differently for some people. Sometimes it triggers more anxiety by reminding you of the problematic stuff.
Well, for me, it has always worked in a positive way. By writing all my thoughts, it gives me a space to think clearly and decide how I am going to handle my problems. It is a calming experience.
Conclusion
As I said earlier, healing takes time. Day by day we understand ourselves, and it helps us heal the deeper feelings and fears we have accumulated over time.
To summarize, the things mentioned above will help you begin your healing from anxiety journey, and you will learn more about your triggers and situations as you grow.
